I went to Best Buy today and looked at the fire. It is not bad. screen is bit more square than Nook. two display are very much the same quality. Both are very sharp and nice. One thing fire is good at is its cloud feature. I guess allow your free store (unlimited?) stuff in the cloud. That will solve your problem honestly without jail brake the Nook, there are not much fun. after jail brake it, the whole world of Android open up for you. Nook it is a bit lighter.
I can use Chinese on Nook. Book any thing goes. epub are better than regular text, pdf. because it dynamically fit to your screen. video, movie, no problem too. So far, if I have any problem, go to androide market I am sure there is a solution for it.
Honestly, I wouldn't go for Ipad for the function I am using day in day out. Basically I am using play game, listen to music, read book, surf web, watch movie, (in sequence of my using priority). I do not do any other heavy application, may be that is iPad good for, I do not know. and I do not do much typing on it either. My friend got a iPad, then also have to get a keyboard cover. because he use it more like a pc, then why not just get a pc?
here is a review on fire. I like one function of the fire, the movie subscription things. But if it cost me, then I am out I like everything free. May be that is why I am not an apple friend.
