I am FAZ/FAS player. My rule is similar, most time follow pattern on chart.

1. 3x ETF. Surviving is most important factor.
2. buy/sell when it hit the Bollinger Band.
3. Direxion. Hence either close my position at peak when I am holding a position. or load my position if I am in cash.
4. long neither. All ETF is consumptive. i.e. it decays itself.
5. In case, the position is stuck. start the covered calls immediately. That's the best exit so far for me.
