如果你有钱，你要交.  You are blessed to have such a good fortune to get enough $$ to pay $60+/year.

如果你没有钱, 你千万表交.  Let me tell you how.

#1.  DO NOT accept the first FA package.  Once you are accepted, the table has turned.  The school want to raise their yield, they will do any thing resonable to get you to say "yes' to them.

#2.  Do not just go and ask for more $$.  Develop a plan and have real numbers.  Tell the FA officer, this is what we have, this is what we need and why.

#3.  Ask for grant first, then work study, when everything fails, ask for subsidized loans.

#4.  DO NOT play number games with school, they have seen it all.  If you do "hand foot", be aware of the consequences.

#5, If you are really short, please don't forget to consider your child's summer earning (5 ~ 8 K) and tax benefits.  Please also understand the COA, about 5 ~ 6 K of that is under your control.  Your kid only goes to college once, please send him/her to the college they want.

老婆同事， 加拿大华人，无美国签证或身份，孩子进Duke了 ，有奖学金。

不是说只有绿卡才可以拿资助吗?

孩子挺好学， 我还给他捎过大学生物教科书。

特别优秀的外国学生也有人拿资助的，不少中国学生也有资助的，通过什么方式不太清楚。

there is no harm to negotiate with the financial office if you think the package is not good enough, but be sure to show the numbers

紧张什么，你赚了足够的钱，学费全自己付；不够，学校会替你付；再没钱，学校全付。
只有考不进的学校，没有读不起的学校。

俺现在只需要操心他们的学习。交学费， 还早着呢， 俺闺女秋天才读1年级--晚婚晚育的坏处啊

好奇MM does clearly point out the way every parent should know prior to application of college.

只有考不进的学校。No excuse.
没有读不起的学校。Always there is a bill payer of college tuition, either you, or someone else, as long as they send you college acceptance.

My sister-in-law just paid her son's wedding...the girl's mother didn't want to pay, the young couple had no money.
