Good question. Setting these points is an art that changes with different person and there is no frigid rule. The following is just my way of operating, which may be changed by anybody to fit their personalities.
Generally, the entry and target positions are dependent on the value of 5 min BBI. Typically, taking an upward trend as an example, the exit point is when 5 min BBI=100 and the ideal entry point is at 5 min BBI=-100 when there is a clear uptrend determined by the 15, 30, and 60 min BBIs(e.g., see the figure in 140# at 11:45). But as long as an uptrend is identified, any oscillation to a lower value of a lower 5 min BBI is an entry point (e.g., 10:20, 12:35 in the figure). Also, before the 5 min BBI getting to the goal, any market set back could be an entry point. (That is why I had 20 trades yesterday). Be careful when starting a new entry point when 5 min BBI is close to the upper limit (such as >70) and when BBI is larger than 50, a quick-in-quick-out (scalping) action is adequate because oscillation is more frequent in those regions.
For the trend determination, 60, and 30 min BBI trends indicate a long term trend, and 15 min BBI shows a medium range trend. Taking the figure in 140# for example again, between 11:00 and 11:45, when 60 min BBI indicated an uptrend, the 30 min, 15 min and 5 min BBIs all reached +100, a warning sign of possible bouncing lower. Here is a position for short entry since a medium term down trend is likely but keep in mind that the long term trend is still upward. Then around 11:45, when the 15 min BBI lost its steam moving down and the 5 min BBI showed upward moving sign, one should immediately shift back to a long position.
There should always be a safety stop order at 8 ticks away on the opposite direction to prevent any sudden moves of the market. Fortunately that does not happen often. |
