BY THE NUMBERS: Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters, on average, expect Alcoa to post a loss of 52 cents per share on revenue of $4.08 billion. During the same quarter last year, Alcoa earned $303 million, or 37 cents per share, on revenue of $7.38 billion.
In January, Alcoa reported its first quarterly loss in six years. That came after the company announced plans to lay off 13 percent of its global work force and sell four business units. In March, the Alcoa took further steps aimed at conserving cash by cutting its dividend for the first time in more than two decades, announcing plans to sell stock and debt and pledging to lower costs by more than $2.4 billion annually by 2010. |
