Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE), a market leader in LED lighting, has been selected to
provide energy-efficient LED lighting to Walmart for new stores and renovations.
Walmart plans to install Cree LRP-38 LED light bulbs in 650 stores during the
first year, replacing ceramic metal halide in the produce and electronics
departments. Cree`s industry-leading LR6 recessed LED downlights are also being
used in new construction applications.

The Cree LRP-38, a PAR38 style LED lamp, was selected for its energy-efficiency,
long lifetime, controlled beam and high color-rendition. Designed to last 50,000
hours, the LRP-38 consumes 82 percent less energy than the 70-Watt ceramic metal
halide bulbs it replaces and can last more than five years in a 24/7 operating
environment. The unique design of the LRP-38 also reduces glare for customers,
focusing attention on the merchandise and not the lighting.

"Cree TrueWhite Technology delivers high quality light-making food and
merchandise attractive, which we believe enhances the customer`s experience,"
said Neal Hunter, Cree LED Lighting president. "We`re able to do all this while
reducing energy consumption and eliminating toxic mercury. The selection of
Cree`s lamp followed a thorough analysis of performance, in-store evaluations
and return on investment."

　　淡马锡总经理Ang Peng Huat在电子邮件声明稿中表示，在LED产业于节能与环保照明趋势下逐渐成长之际，首尔半导体很可望因此受惠。据了解，根据韩国证券法规定，淡马锡必须持有这些股权至少一年的时间。

　　昨日，首尔半导体股价闻讯劲扬。截至收盘为止，首尔半导体劲扬3.61%，报41,500韩圆；KOSPI指数上涨1.02%，报1,565.66点。

DisplaySearch在11月3日表示，除了notebook大幅采用LED背光外，液晶电视与显示器面板也将掀起LED热潮。预计LED背光成本将会较以往下降速度更快，市场成长性也会较原先预期来得高。

　　DisplaySearch表示，以显示器面板来说，许多PC大厂看重LED背光省电效益，同时也有许多小尺寸LED显示器面板，被用于入门级液晶电视，以吸引消费者；而在液晶电视方面，LED背光除了强调省电、环保（无汞）外，采用LED背光可以使产品做的更薄、更美观设计，同时厂商也提升产品色彩饱和度与亮度等等，使得LED背光不只得到PC厂商关注，对于TV厂商更是提升产品价值的重要法宝。

　　DisplaySearch大中华区副总经理谢勤益指出，LED背光面板不只是未来发展趋势，更是即将发生的现在式。现阶段采用LED背光Notebook出货量已超过50%，估计采用LED背光液晶显示器与液晶电视面板增长速度，将比之前预测还要快，同时下一季CCFL与LED背光面板的价差，将会持续缩小。

　　在10月底的年度股东大会上，Cree主席兼首席执行官Chuck Swoboda演示了一款A-lamp LED灯泡，在光效为102 lm/W的情况下输出达到969流明。

　　按照CREE的说法，这一最新成果是目前业界最高的流明输出和效率纪录。

　　这一LED灯泡的光输出相当于一个65W的白炽灯泡，但其功率仅为9.5 W。　　本次演示的A-19灯泡采用CREE最新研发和量产的XLamp® XP-G LED和真白光（TrueWhite）专利技术。

　　A-19灯泡可发出2800 K的暖白光，CRI达到91，CREE表示所有这些数据都经过第三方测试认证。

　　Swoboda表示，LED元件的每一项改进都有可能衍生出新的应用，“我们兴奋的是我们不仅向世界展现了我们所做的工作，还满足了人们对LED灯泡的各种期望。”

I am waiting to buy a Samsung LED monitor for my desktop.

Currently in Frys I only see LG LED monitor which is good but not super compared to LCD, and I see not difference for DELL LED monitor and the LCD monitor.

所谓的LED TV是指用大功率LED做背光的LCD TV/Monitor。普通的LCD TV/Monitor用CCFL（冷阴极发光管）做背光。
显示技术是一样的，只是背光技术不同。用LED做背光的好处，简单讲，第一省电，大屏幕还是很耗电的。第二，色彩丰富。

所以，结论是，以LED为背光的LCD TV/Monitor比普通的LCD TV/Monitor好。这是没有疑问的。

So what is cree doing here?  build the LED for all the LED monitor/TV? say a samsung LED TV need CREE product? If it can support those LED material to those big guys like Samsung/Sharp, DELL?HP, then it would have bright future.

LED will replace LCD for sure, I would not buy anything other than LED monitor/tv now except there is another better tech in the future.

If CREE could hold the clear leader pos in this area, it would be a 3 digital stock. Time will tell.

It is good, It will provide Walmart LED lamp for their stores.

Lots of insider selling though.

But long term looks like very promising.

Sharp TV started to use LED in LCD TV. Compared to CCFL, they can lower the part of LED output when the screen area is dark. The result is high contrast, and save more power.
