No doubt that AAPL has been a phenomenon - but the question is - how long can it keep the momentum? Consumers are fickle on tech. products - so if products go stale or marketing goes stupid, you lose the market share, like the once might SONY. So far under Jobs AAPL does very well. But what if Jobs dies? To keep fresh ideas going is a tough game.
AAPL really has two markets that it has an edge - iPhone and Mac. Mac is a niche play while iPhone is the only thing holding AAPL's market cap. However, I can see problems coming - 1. the whole smartphone market has been there for a long time. After a few years people will lose the freshness/excitement in owning an iPhone. 2. Android phones are catching up. 3. Enterprise market is hard for iphone to crack it has too many features. 4. Competitors are working hard - MOT/MSFT/ etc. After a while, its market share may still hold or grow, but the margin can be a problem.
Well, the competition is not a big threat yet. But the landscape can change very fast - Razor and PS2 once are more popular than iPhone... |
