If locals are able to lift ES despite paper selling, normally it means general markets are seeing healthy buying. Hence normally it's considered a bullish sign.

while playing today we should also keep an eye on tomorrow's data release. Both initial and continuing claims numbers probably will miss the estimate. somehow I feel the economists who participated the survey are playing with big Ben, why they keep estimating all the figures higher than the actual, we know and they know the current economy is pretty bad.
