1986年7月29日，中国核科学家邓稼先逝世，享年62岁。

香港《文汇报》说，邓稼先与夫人结婚33年，在一起的时间仅6年。从1964年到1986年，邓稼先一共参与了32次核试验，他在接到核试验任务之初曾对其夫人说：“做好了这件事情，我这一生就过得很有价值，就是为它死也值得。”
