Within technical analysis, "divergence" signifies a pattern where market prices and an indicator deviate without any tangible explanation underlying the phenomenon. While most indicators represent statistical measures of past price changes, the NED indicator distinguishes itself by having a physical meaning – it gauges current aggregate market buying and selling behaviors, avoiding the caveat of predicting future based on past patterns. For instance, at a price peak accompanied by a low NED, it suggests that some are selling (indicated by the low NED) even though the majority remains optimistic, hence the peak. The lower the NED, the more pronounced the selling pressure. |
